"By masterfully weaving the experience of professional actors together with the raw talent of young budding performers, in writing that risks antagonism for its authenticity and emotional honesty, Mayhem undoubtedly works!"

Are you interested in developing your skills as a young writer?
Mayhem Writers' Foundation in collaboration with SE1 United are delighted to announce that as of January, screenwriter and filmmaker ROSS CLARKE will be working with us bringing invaluable insight, a wealth of expertise, encouragement and enlightenment to the art of scriptwriting.
While continuing to explore and workshop the various disciplines of performance poetry, journalism and blogging you will now also have the opportunity to explore the technical and practical elements involved in scriptwriting.
Workshop sessions will start on Friday 14th January 7:00 – 9:00, and thereafter on a fortnightly basis.
Sessions take place in Violet Room, Spirit Level, Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre. As a member of MWF, you will get the opportunity to:
- Work with your peers to share and develop work.
- Be mentored by professionals working in your chosen field. Both SE1 United and Mayhem have close links with the artists in residence at Southbank, along with journalists and playwrights.
- Attend performances and events that you are interested in.
- Workshops will run in conjunction with Mayhem's new theatre project: Big Britain Boxing, which is seeking to expose the lives and stories of those who were either once involved or who are currently involved, in London's historically rich Boxing scene. We have a team of four oral historians working for us who are conducting interviews with boxers in some of London's most renowned clubs.
-
Ross will be using Friday workshop sessions to guide you through the technicalities and process of turning some of these stories into scripts, starting with work on short scenes.
- You will get to see your scripted scenes performed by Mayhem Youth Theatre during our Tuesday night sessions, and the further opportunity to build on feedback from cast and a professional director.
